TECSOUND SY100 Self-Adhesive Acoustic Membrane
TECSOUND SY100, also known as Tecsound S100 or Tecsound SY100, is a high-performance self-adhesive acoustic membrane designed to add significant mass to walls, floors and ceilings. With a mass of 10kg/m², it is a heavy-duty acoustic barrier for projects where stronger airborne noise reduction is required.
The self-adhesive backing makes TECSOUND SY100 easier to install than non-adhesive acoustic membranes. It can be applied directly to suitable clean, dry and stable surfaces, helping to reduce installation time while still providing a dense acoustic layer within the soundproofing system.
What is TECSOUND SY100 used for?
TECSOUND SY100 is mainly used to help reduce airborne noise, including voices, TV noise, music, office noise and general sound transfer through separating structures. It can be used on suitable walls, floors and ceilings as part of a complete acoustic build-up.
Because it adds 10kg/m² of acoustic mass, SY100 is often chosen for more demanding soundproofing projects where a heavier membrane is preferred over lighter options such as SY50 or SY70.
Why choose TECSOUND SY100?
TECSOUND SY100 is the heaviest option in the self-adhesive Tecsound range. This makes it useful where the existing structure needs extra mass but available space is limited. It provides a slim but dense acoustic layer that can be built into wall, ceiling and floor systems.
It is suitable for both DIY users and trade installers, especially where a high-performance acoustic membrane is needed for residential, commercial or refurbishment projects.

Helpful advice before buying
TECSOUND SY100 is a heavy acoustic membrane, so it can be more difficult to handle than SY50 or SY70. For ceilings, large areas or overhead work, we recommend working in pairs and cutting the membrane into manageable sections before installation.
As with all soundproofing products, the final result depends on the full system. The existing wall, floor or ceiling, the supporting materials, the number of layers used, the installation quality and the sealing of gaps will all affect acoustic performance.

- Plasterboard
- Timber boards
- MDF
- Concrete
- Drywall and partition systems
- Ceiling linings and bulkheads
- Floor build-ups and board systems
For best adhesion, the surface should be free from dust, grease, moisture, loose material and heavy texture before the membrane is applied.
Acoustic Use
TECSOUND SY100 is primarily used to help reduce airborne noise. This includes sound such as voices, TV noise, music, office noise and general noise transfer through a wall, floor or ceiling structure.
With a mass of 10kg/m², SY100 provides a heavier acoustic layer than SY50 and SY70. This makes it suitable for higher-performance soundproofing systems where additional acoustic mass is required.
Common System Uses
- Party wall soundproofing

- Home cinema and media room projects
- Studios, music rooms and home offices
- Commercial and trade acoustic installations
- High-noise areas where extra mass is required
Important Performance Note
The stated airborne noise rating should be treated as system-dependent. Actual soundproofing performance will depend on the existing wall, floor or ceiling construction, the full build-up, the quality of installation and how well gaps, joints and flanking paths are controlled.
For best results, TECSOUND SY100 is commonly combined with other acoustic materials such as acoustic plasterboard, acoustic mineral wool, resilient channels, furring channels, acoustic sealant and suitable wall, floor or ceiling systems.
Handling Advice
TECSOUND SY100 is a heavy acoustic membrane, with a roll weight of approximately 48kg. For ceilings, overhead work or large areas, we recommend working in pairs and cutting the membrane into manageable sections before fitting.

How to Install TECSOUND SY100 Self-Adhesive Acoustic Membrane
TECSOUND SY100, also known as Tecsound S100 or Tecsound SY100, is a heavy-duty self-adhesive acoustic membrane designed to reduce airborne noise transfer through walls, ceilings and floors. With a mass of 10kg/m² and an approximate roll weight of 48kg, it provides a high level of acoustic mass for demanding soundproofing projects.
The self-adhesive backing makes installation cleaner and more straightforward than using a separate adhesive. However, because SY100 is a heavy membrane, careful handling, preparation and fitting are important for a secure and professional-quality installation.
What You’ll Need
- TECSOUND SY100 Self-Adhesive Acoustic Membrane
- Measuring tape
- Sharp Stanley knife or utility blade
- Straight edge or metal ruler
- Hand roller or floor roller
- Gloves for handling
- Acoustic sealant for edges and gaps
- Acoustic putty pads for socket boxes, if required
- Tecsound jointing tape or suitable acoustic tape, if required
Before You Start
Allow TECSOUND SY100 to acclimatise in the room for around 24 hours before installation where possible. This helps the membrane settle to the room temperature and makes it easier to handle and apply.
SY100 is the heaviest option in the self-adhesive Tecsound range, so large sections can be difficult to lift, position and control. For ceilings, overhead work or larger areas, we strongly recommend working in pairs and cutting the membrane into smaller, manageable sections before fitting.
Step 1: Prepare the Surface
Before applying the membrane, make sure the surface is properly prepared. The surface should be:
- Clean — remove dust, dirt, grease, debris and loose particles.
- Dry — do not apply the membrane to damp or wet surfaces.
- Smooth and stable — fill cracks, gaps and uneven areas before fitting.
- Structurally sound — avoid applying to weak, crumbling or unstable surfaces.
TECSOUND SY100 can be installed onto suitable surfaces such as plasterboard, concrete, timber, MDF and other stable construction boards. Good preparation is essential because dust, moisture or loose material can reduce adhesion.
Step 2: Measure and Cut the Membrane
- Measure the area where the membrane will be fitted.
- Mark the required size on the membrane.
- Use a sharp Stanley knife or utility blade with a straight edge to cut the membrane neatly.
- Cut the membrane into manageable sections, especially for ceiling work or larger areas.
Allow for a small overlap of approximately 5mm to 10mm between sheets where possible. Cutting accurately helps reduce gaps, waste and weak points in the finished soundproofing system.
Step 3: Apply TECSOUND SY100 to the Surface
- Start from one corner of the installation area.
- Peel back a small section of the protective backing.
- Align the exposed adhesive section with the surface.
- Press the membrane firmly into position.
- Gradually peel away more of the backing while smoothing the membrane onto the surface.
- Use a hand roller, floor roller or firm hand pressure to secure full contact.
Work slowly and carefully. Because SY100 is heavy, avoid trying to position too much material at once. Firm pressure across the full surface helps improve adhesion and reduces the risk of trapped air pockets.
Step 4: Overlap and Seal the Joints
Where sheets meet, overlap TECSOUND SY100 by around 5mm to 10mm where possible. Press the overlap firmly so the membrane creates a close-fitting, continuous acoustic layer.
For improved airtightness, joints can be reinforced using Tecsound jointing tape or a suitable acoustic tape. This is especially useful when SY100 is being used as part of a higher-performance wall, ceiling or floor soundproofing system.
Step 5: Trim Edges and Openings
Once the membrane is fitted, trim excess material around edges, corners, sockets, switches, pipes or openings using a sharp blade and straight edge.
Small gaps can reduce the overall acoustic result, so take time to seal weak points properly. Use acoustic sealant around perimeter edges, joints and small gaps. Where electrical sockets or switches are present, use acoustic putty pads to help reduce sound leakage through the back boxes.
Step 6: Add the Next Layer
Once TECSOUND SY100 has been installed, it can be covered or incorporated into the next stage of the soundproofing build-up. Depending on the project, this may include:
- Acoustic plasterboard
- Standard plasterboard
- MDF or timber board
- Suspended ceiling systems
- Floating floor layers
- Resilient bars or furring channels
- Acoustic mineral wool within the cavity
TECSOUND SY100 performs best as part of a complete acoustic system. For example, wall and ceiling systems often combine acoustic membrane, acoustic insulation, resilient isolation products, plasterboard layers and acoustic sealant to improve airborne noise reduction.
Installation Tips
- Work in pairs — SY100 is heavy and can be difficult to handle alone.
- Use smaller sections for ceilings — this makes lifting, positioning and bonding easier.
- Prepare the surface properly — clean, dry surfaces help the adhesive bond.
- Apply firm pressure — use a roller to improve adhesion and remove trapped air.
- Keep coverage continuous — gaps can reduce acoustic performance.
- Seal all edges and penetrations — sound can pass through small openings.
- Use sharp blades — clean cuts make fitting easier and reduce waste.
Important Soundproofing Note
Soundproofing performance depends on the full system, not just one individual product. TECSOUND SY100 adds a high level of acoustic mass, but the final result will also depend on the existing structure, supporting materials, installation quality and how well gaps and flanking paths are controlled.
