Angel Mini Helix Acoustic Panel Suspension Hanger

Angel Mini Helix is a compact, adjustable suspension hanger designed specifically for installing polyester-fibre and PET acoustic panels.

The system combines a helical panel anchor with a low-profile Angel wire hanger. The helix twists directly into the acoustic panel, creating a concealed suspension point without requiring a separate mounting plate on the face of the panel.

Once connected to a compatible 1.5mm suspension wire, the Angel mechanism allows the panel height to be adjusted using the spring-loaded release wings.

Designed for Polyester-Fibre Acoustic Panels

Angel Mini Helix is intended for use with compatible polyester-fibre and PET acoustic panels with a minimum recommended thickness of 12mm in vertical suspension.

The helical anchor passes through and binds the layers of polyester fibre, creating an anchoring point within the panel material.

Typical applications include:

  • Suspended PET acoustic panels
  • Polyester-fibre acoustic rafts
  • Acoustic ceiling clouds
  • Suspended circular panels
  • Lightweight decorative acoustic features
  • Commercial and educational interior acoustic treatments

The acoustic-panel manufacturer must confirm that the selected panel is suitable for a screw-in helical suspension fixing.

Minimum 12mm Panel Thickness

Gripple states a minimum recommended panel thickness of 12mm for vertical suspension.

This minimum thickness does not establish universal compatibility with every 12mm PET panel. The suitability of the fixing also depends on:

  • The density of the panel
  • The internal structure of the polyester fibre
  • The panel dimensions
  • The panel weight
  • The number and spacing of suspension points
  • The distance between each helix and the panel edge

Do not install the product into loose, damaged or unsuitable panel material.

Integrated Lever Installation

The hanger body is hinged and can tilt to one side, allowing it to act as a lever while the helix is twisted into the acoustic panel.

This removes the need for a separate installation tool for the helical anchor and helps the installer apply a controlled twisting action.

Once the helix is fully engaged, the hanger is returned to its upright position ready to receive the suspension wire.

Pre-Assembled Hanger and Anchor

The Angel hanger and Mini Helix anchor are supplied as a pre-assembled component.

This reduces the number of separate parts that must be connected at ceiling level and helps speed up panel installation.

The pre-assembled design also reduces the risk of the wrong hanger being connected to the helical anchor.

Adjustable Suspension Height

The hanger grips compatible 1.5mm suspension wire and allows the panel position to be adjusted after connection.

Pressing the Angel wings releases the wire-gripping mechanism so the hanger can be moved up or down the wire.

This makes it easier to:

  • Level adjacent acoustic panels
  • Set a consistent ceiling drop
  • Correct minor installation differences
  • Create stepped panel arrangements
  • Adjust the panel around nearby building services

The panel load must be safely supported before the release wings are pressed.

Up to 45-Degree Swivel

The Mini Helix hanger can swivel by up to approximately 45 degrees.

This allows the suspension wire to run at a controlled angle where necessary, helping installers:

  • Avoid existing services
  • Accommodate offset ceiling fixing points
  • Suspend circular acoustic panels
  • Respond to restricted ceiling layouts

The completed suspension arrangement must still remain within the manufacturer’s permitted loading and installation conditions.

15kg Safe Working Load

The Angel Mini Helix has a stated safe working load of up to 15kg in vertical suspension, with a published safety factor of 5:1.

The actual allowable panel load may be lower because the complete installation is limited by its weakest component.

Relevant factors include:

  • The pull-out resistance of the acoustic panel
  • The panel thickness and density
  • The helix engagement depth
  • The number of suspension points
  • The 1.5mm suspension wire
  • The ceiling end fixing
  • The supporting substrate
  • The direction of the applied load

Do not calculate the permissible panel weight by simply multiplying 15kg by the number of hangers. The panel manufacturer or project designer must determine the appropriate suspension layout.

Discreet, Low-Profile Finish

The compact hanger body and fine suspension wire help minimise visible hardware above the acoustic panel.

This supports a clean floating-panel appearance in interiors where the suspension system remains exposed.

Ready-to-Install Suspension Systems

Gripple can supply Angel Mini Helix as part of a ready-to-install suspension system comprising:

  • A selected structural end fixing
  • A pre-cut and fused length of compatible suspension wire
  • The Angel Mini Helix hanger

The contents of this specific retail product must be confirmed before publishing the package contents.

Do not state that a ceiling fixing or suspension wire is included unless those components are supplied with the stocked product.

Operating Environment

The standard published operating-temperature range is -20°C to +70°C.

For applications involving higher temperatures, aggressive chemicals, persistent moisture, external exposure or corrosive environments, obtain project-specific advice from the manufacturer.

Acoustic Performance

Angel Mini Helix is a suspension accessory and does not have its own sound-absorption or airborne-sound rating.

The acoustic performance of the finished installation depends on:

  • The acoustic panel product
  • The panel thickness and density
  • The suspended air gap
  • The panel surface area
  • The number and positioning of panels
  • The surrounding room construction

Storage and Inspection

  • Store the hanger and wire in clean, dry internal conditions.
  • Keep the wire-gripping mechanism free from dust and debris.
  • Do not use a hanger that is cracked, distorted or visibly damaged.
  • Do not use kinked, frayed or corroded wire.
  • Keep the helical anchor free from damage before installation.

How to Install Angel Mini Helix

Angel Mini Helix must be installed as part of a compatible panel, wire and ceiling-fixing system.

Before beginning, establish the acoustic-panel weight, panel construction, required suspension layout and supporting ceiling substrate.

1. Verify Panel Compatibility

Confirm that the acoustic panel:

  • Is manufactured from compatible polyester fibre or PET
  • Is at least 12mm thick
  • Is suitable for a helical screw-in suspension fixing
  • Is structurally sound at each fixing location
  • Is within the permitted weight for the complete suspension design

Do not install the Mini Helix into a panel that is damaged, excessively soft or prohibited from accepting screw-in suspension anchors.

2. Determine the Suspension Layout

Mark each hanger position according to the panel manufacturer’s instructions or the project-specific suspension design.

The layout must account for:

  • Panel dimensions
  • Panel weight
  • Panel rigidity
  • Panel shape
  • Distance from the panel edges
  • Required ceiling drop
  • Nearby building services

Provide enough suspension points to distribute the load evenly and prevent the panel from bending or sagging.

3. Prepare the Structural End Fixings

Select and install a compatible ceiling or structural end fixing for the actual substrate.

The supporting construction may include:

  • Concrete
  • Structural steel
  • Timber
  • An approved suspension channel
  • A rated ceiling-grid component

Do not attach the system to a decorative ceiling lining unless that lining and its support structure are approved for the suspended load.

4. Install the Suspension Wire

Connect the compatible 1.5mm suspension wire to the selected structural fixing.

Confirm that the wire:

  • Is the correct Gripple-compatible type and diameter
  • Is securely retained by the end fixing
  • Is free from kinks, corrosion and damage
  • Provides sufficient length for adjustment
  • Runs in the required direction

5. Position the Mini Helix

Place the tip of the helical anchor at the marked panel location.

Hold the anchor perpendicular to the panel surface unless the manufacturer-approved layout requires another angle.

Ensure that the location is sufficiently far from the panel edge to avoid tearing or splitting the panel material.

6. Use the Hanger as the Installation Lever

Tilt the hinged Angel hanger body to one side so it can be used as a lever.

Rotate the hanger to twist the helical anchor into the polyester-fibre panel.

Use a controlled action so that:

  • The anchor enters the panel straight
  • The fibre is not torn excessively
  • The anchor reaches the required engagement depth
  • The panel is not crushed
  • The fixing does not become loose or misaligned

Do not repeatedly remove and reinstall the anchor into the same weakened fixing location.

7. Return the Hanger Upright

Once the helix is securely engaged, return the Angel hanger body to its upright operating position.

Check that:

  • The helix remains securely embedded
  • The hanger moves through its intended hinged range
  • The panel material around the anchor is undamaged
  • The hanger is ready to accept the suspension wire

8. Repeat Across the Panel

Install the remaining Mini Helix hangers at every specified suspension point.

Before lifting the panel, check that all anchors are:

  • Securely engaged
  • Correctly positioned
  • Installed to a consistent depth
  • Free from visible movement or damage

9. Feed the Wire into the Hanger

With the Angel hanger upright, feed the compatible wire into the opening at the top of the hanger.

Allow the internal mechanism to grip the wire before transferring the panel load.

Do not feed the wire through an unintended opening or use an incompatible diameter.

10. Raise the Panel

Lift and support the panel while progressively connecting each hanger to its suspension wire.

Do not allow the complete panel weight to hang from one Mini Helix while the remaining suspension points are being connected.

11. Adjust the Panel Height

Support the panel before pressing the Angel release wings.

Squeeze the wings and move the hanger carefully along the wire until the required height is reached.

Release the wings fully and confirm that the hanger has re-engaged with the wire.

Repeat at each fixing point until the panel is level and correctly positioned.

12. Use the Swivel Where Necessary

The hanger may be swivelled by up to approximately 45 degrees where required to avoid services or accommodate shaped panels.

Do not exceed the manufacturer’s permitted angle or create an uncontrolled side load on the acoustic panel.

13. Complete the Final Inspection

Confirm that:

  • Every helical anchor remains secure within the panel.
  • Every hanger fully grips its suspension wire.
  • Every structural end fixing is secure.
  • The panel is level and correctly aligned.
  • The load is distributed across all suspension points.
  • No panel edge or fixing point is damaged.
  • The installation remains within the permitted load.
  • The panel remains clear of surrounding services and finishes.

Adjustment After Installation

Before changing the panel height:

  • Support the panel weight.
  • Press the release wings fully.
  • Move the hanger gradually.
  • Release the wings completely.
  • Confirm that the wire is locked before removing support.

Never release the wire-gripping mechanism while the panel load is uncontrolled.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect the suspension system periodically and after any impact, alteration or ceiling work.

Check for:

  • Movement of the helix within the panel
  • Tearing or compression around the anchor
  • Wire slippage
  • Kinked, frayed or corroded wire
  • Damage to the hanger body
  • Loose structural end fixings
  • Panels that are no longer level
  • Additional unapproved loads

Remove the panel from service where any hanger, anchor, wire, fixing or panel connection is damaged or loose.

Important Load Note

The stated 15kg rating applies to the Angel Mini Helix under supported vertical-suspension conditions.

The permissible load for the completed installation may be lower and is controlled by the acoustic panel, helix engagement, number of suspension points, wire, end fixing and supporting substrate.
