4.0 × 70mm WoodMaster Super Cutter Woodscrews are high-performance, Pozi-drive screws designed for universal fixing into timber, chipboard, MDF, plastics and suitable composite materials.
Each screw combines a sharp Type 17 cutting point, aggressive thread form, helically fluted milling section and double-countersunk head with nibs. These features help the screw start quickly, reduce driving resistance and seat neatly into the fixed material.
The screws are supplied in a box of 200 and use a standard PZ2 driver.
Universal Wood and Board Fixing

Aggressive Thread Form

Zinc and Di-Chromate Finish

For exposed external, marine, chemically aggressive or persistently wet environments, select a fixing with an appropriate environmental and corrosion classification.

How to Install 4.0 × 70mm WoodMaster Super Cutter Woodscrews
Select the screw position, penetration and spacing according to the materials being joined and the loads applied to the connection.
1. Check the Materials
Confirm that the components are sound and suitable for a countersunk woodscrew.
Do not fix into:
- Rotten or severely split timber
- Loose or crumbling board material
- Unsupported panel edges
- Areas containing concealed pipes or electrical cables
2. Confirm the Screw Length
Ensure the 70mm screw can pass through the first component and achieve sufficient engagement within the receiving timber or board.
Allow for the thickness of all intervening materials, including boards, battens, membranes and isolation products.
3. Decide Whether a Pilot Hole Is Required
The Type 17 cutting point is designed to reduce the need for pre-drilling in most common timber applications.
Use a suitable pilot hole when fixing:
- Into particularly dense hardwood
- Close to the end or edge of timber
- Through brittle plastics or composite materials
- Into thin components that could split
- Where the material manufacturer requires pre-drilling
4. Align the Components
Place the components in their final position and clamp them where necessary.
Correct alignment prevents movement as the screw starts and helps the head seat evenly.
5. Fit a PZ2 Driver Bit
Fit a sound, correctly sized PZ2 bit into a suitable drill-driver.
Insert the bit fully into the recess and keep the tool aligned with the screw. Replace the bit if it slips or shows significant wear.
6. Start the Screw
Position the Type 17 point at the required fixing location and begin driving at a controlled speed.
The point should take hold quickly. Maintain firm axial pressure so the driver remains seated in the Pozi recess.
7. Drive Through the First Component
Continue driving while keeping the screw straight.
The milling section will help clear timber fibres and reduce friction as it passes through the first component.
Stop and investigate if:
- The screw stops advancing
- The timber begins to split
- The screw bends
- The PZ2 recess begins to strip
- Unusually high torque is required
8. Draw the Joint Together
Allow the thread to engage the receiving material and pull the components firmly together.
Do not continue driving where a gap remains because debris, misalignment or an incorrect fixing arrangement prevents the joint from closing.
9. Seat the Head
Drive the double-countersunk head until it is flush with the surface or seated to the depth required by the fixing detail.
The nibs beneath the head assist countersinking, but the screw should not be overdriven deeply into the material.
10. Inspect the Fixing
Check that:
- The screw is straight and secure.
- The head is flush without excessive surface damage.
- The components are firmly clamped.
- No splitting has developed around the fixing.
- The specified fixing spacing has been maintained.
Use in Acoustic Constructions
Where the screw is used within a soundproofing system, follow the complete system detail.
Do not drive screws through resilient bars, isolation clips, acoustic underlays or decoupling layers unless the design specifically requires that connection. An incorrectly positioned screw can bridge the isolation layer and reduce acoustic performance.
Environmental Limitation
The zinc and di-chromate passivated finish is intended primarily for normal internal and sheltered conditions.
Use stainless-steel or appropriately coated fixings where the screws will be exposed to persistent moisture, weather, corrosive timber or aggressive environments.
