Phillips Drive
The Phillips recess is compatible with a correctly sized Phillips driver bit.

How to Install 3.5 × 32mm Fine Thread Drywall Screws

1. Confirm the Screw Is Suitable
Before installation, verify:

2. Inspect the Framing

5. Position the Screw

6. Drive the Screw

7. Set the Correct Head Depth

Do not overdrive the screw through the paper facing. Once the paper has torn around the complete head, the fixing may no longer provide the intended board restraint.

Where a screw is overdriven, loose or incorrectly positioned:
- Leave it in place only where permitted by the board manufacturer.
- Install a replacement fixing into sound material nearby.
- Maintain the required edge distance and screw spacing.

9. Maintain the Required Fixing Centres
Continue installing screws at the spacing specified for the particular wall, ceiling or lining system.
Do not assume that wall and ceiling fixing centres are identical. Ceiling boards and fire-rated or acoustic systems may require closer centres or a specific installation sequence.
10. Multi-Layer Board Systems
Where more than one plasterboard layer is installed, verify that the selected screw length is suitable for the particular layer.
A 32mm screw may be appropriate for a first layer or certain single-board constructions but may not provide sufficient penetration through a thicker multi-layer build-up.
Use the screw length specified for each layer of the tested or designed system.
11. Final Inspection
Before jointing, check that:
- All screws are correctly positioned over the framing.
- No screw head projects above the board surface.
- No fixing has torn completely through the paper.
- The board is held firmly against the supporting studs.
- The specified fixing centres have been maintained.
- Board joints and perimeter gaps remain correctly formed.
12. Apply Jointing Compound
Cover correctly recessed screw heads using the jointing compound and finishing method specified for the plasterboard system.
Do not rely on jointing compound to correct a loose, protruding or overdriven fixing.

Black-phosphate drywall screws are intended primarily for dry internal construction.
Do not use them in exposed external or persistently damp locations unless the screw supplier and complete wall or ceiling system expressly confirm suitability.
