Foil & Cartridge Applicator Gun – 600ml

Foil & Cartridge Applicator Gun – 600ml is a versatile manual dispensing gun designed for applying compatible sealants, adhesives and mastics supplied in foil sausage packs or conventional rigid cartridges.

The enclosed 15-inch aluminium barrel accepts foil packs up to 600ml and can also be configured to hold standard sealant cartridges. This dual-purpose design allows one applicator to be used across a wide range of sealing, bonding and soundproofing tasks.

Each gun is supplied in one fixed configuration:

  • Maximum 600ml foil-pack capacity
  • Suitable for compatible 400ml and 600ml sausage packs
  • Accepts conventional rigid cartridges up to approximately 310ml
  • Enclosed 15-inch aluminium barrel
  • Manual trigger-operated dispensing mechanism
  • Pressure-release control
  • Supplied dispensing nozzle
  • Separate plunger arrangements for foils and cartridges

One Gun for Foils and Cartridges

The applicator can be configured for two common types of sealant packaging.

Foil sausage packs are inserted into the enclosed barrel and dispensed through the supplied reusable nozzle. The gun accommodates compatible 400ml and 600ml foil packs.

Rigid cartridges are held within the same barrel using the appropriate cartridge-plunger arrangement. These commonly include C3 cartridges in approximately 290ml, 300ml and 310ml capacities.

The correct plunger and loading arrangement must be used for the selected package type.

600ml Foil-Pack Capacity

The full-length barrel accepts foil sausage packs up to approximately 600ml or 15 inches long.

Foil packs are frequently used for higher-volume professional products because they:

  • Contain more material than a typical rigid cartridge
  • Produce less rigid packaging waste
  • Can reduce interruptions during long sealing runs
  • Are available for many sealants, adhesives and specialist mastics

Package compatibility must always be checked against the dimensions and instructions for the material being dispensed.

Enclosed Aluminium Barrel

The aluminium barrel encloses and supports the foil pack throughout dispensing. It also acts as the holder when the tool is configured for a conventional cartridge.

The barrel provides:

  • Support around flexible foil packs
  • Protection for the material package during handling
  • A stable path for the moving plunger
  • Controlled alignment between the pack and dispensing nozzle
  • A durable yet manageable tool construction

The barrel can be rotated to help position the nozzle when working along corners, junctions and difficult-to-access details.

Controlled Manual Dispensing

The trigger mechanism advances the piston rod and applies pressure to the rear of the cartridge or foil pack.

Repeated trigger strokes provide a controlled flow of material through the nozzle. The dispensing rate remains dependent on:

  • The viscosity of the sealant or adhesive
  • The temperature of the material
  • The size of the nozzle opening
  • The condition of the applicator
  • The speed and consistency of trigger operation

A pressure-release control allows the operator to relieve force from the material pack when pausing or completing the application.

Suitable for Sealants, Adhesives and Mastics

The gun can be used with compatible single-component products supplied in the supported package formats, including:

  • Acoustic sealants
  • Flexible joint sealants
  • Silicone sealants
  • Hybrid polymer sealants and adhesives
  • Construction adhesives
  • Gap-filling mastics
  • Suitable fire-stopping sealants

The applicator does not determine whether a particular sealant is suitable for the project. Always select the material according to its own technical data, substrate compatibility and performance evidence.

Soundproofing Applications

Within soundproofing installations, the gun can be used to dispense compatible acoustic sealants at locations such as:

  • Wall-to-floor junctions
  • Wall-to-ceiling junctions
  • Board perimeter gaps
  • Joints around service penetrations
  • Edges of independent wall linings
  • Acoustic floor and ceiling details

The acoustic performance belongs to the complete construction and the specified sealant. The applicator gun has no standalone acoustic rating.

Professional and DIY Use

The manual mechanism requires no battery, charger, compressor or electrical supply. It can therefore be used for professional installations, maintenance work and correctly planned DIY projects.

The enclosed barrel and interchangeable dispensing arrangement make the tool particularly useful where a project includes both larger foil packs and standard cartridges.

How to Use the Foil & Cartridge Applicator Gun – 600ml

Read the instructions supplied with the sealant or adhesive before loading the applicator. Wear the personal protective equipment required by the material manufacturer.

1. Inspect the Applicator

Before loading, confirm that:

  • The barrel and frame are undamaged.
  • The piston rod is straight and moves freely.
  • The pressure-release control operates correctly.
  • The barrel end cap and nozzle threads are clean.
  • The correct plunger is fitted for the package type.

Do not use a damaged or incorrectly assembled applicator.

2. Prepare the Working Area

Ensure that the joint and surrounding substrates are prepared according to the sealant or adhesive instructions.

This may include:

  • Removing dust and loose material
  • Cleaning grease or contamination
  • Drying the joint surfaces
  • Installing backing rod
  • Applying a specified primer
  • Masking adjacent finishes

Loading a Foil Sausage Pack

3. Release and Retract the Rod

Operate the pressure-release control and pull the piston rod fully backwards.

Do not force the rod if material has cured around the plunger or drive mechanism.

4. Configure the Foil Plunger

Confirm that the plunger intended for flexible foil packs is fitted in accordance with the gun instructions.

The foil plunger must support the rear of the sausage pack evenly without puncturing or folding it.

5. Open the Barrel

Unscrew and remove the front retaining cap and dispensing nozzle.

Keep the cap and nozzle on a clean surface to prevent contamination.

6. Insert the Foil Pack

Slide the compatible 400ml or 600ml sausage pack into the aluminium barrel.

Position the dispensing end towards the front of the gun and ensure that the pack is not twisted, punctured or trapped by the barrel threads.

7. Open the Foil Pack

Follow the material manufacturer’s instructions for opening the sausage pack.

Where instructed, cut the foil cleanly immediately behind the front retaining clip. Avoid tearing the package or leaving loose foil that could obstruct the nozzle.

8. Refit the Nozzle and Cap

Place the dispensing nozzle into the front cap and screw the assembly firmly onto the barrel.

Cut the nozzle to produce the required bead size and profile.

Begin with a smaller opening, as the nozzle can be enlarged if necessary.

9. Advance the Plunger

Squeeze the trigger slowly until the plunger contacts the rear of the foil pack and material reaches the nozzle.

Do not continue applying force if the nozzle is blocked or the foil pack has been loaded incorrectly.

Loading a Standard Cartridge

10. Retract the Piston Rod

Release the drive mechanism and pull the rod fully backwards.

11. Configure the Cartridge Plunger

Fit or expose the rigid-cartridge plunger according to the gun instructions.

Some BD600SG supply arrangements use a metal cartridge plunger beneath a removable plastic foil plunger.

12. Prepare the Cartridge

Cut the cartridge nozzle to the required bead size and puncture the internal seal where required by the product instructions.

Do not dispense a cartridge whose casing, nozzle or retaining base is damaged.

13. Insert the Cartridge

Place the rigid cartridge into the enclosed barrel with its nozzle projecting through the front opening.

Secure the front cap and make sure the cartridge is aligned with the piston rod.

Dispensing the Material

14. Start the Bead

Hold the nozzle at the angle recommended for the joint and squeeze the trigger steadily.

Move the applicator at a consistent speed to produce an even bead.

The appropriate application speed depends on:

  • The joint width and depth
  • The nozzle opening
  • The material viscosity
  • The required bead profile
  • The temperature of the product

15. Rotate the Barrel Where Required

Rotate the barrel to position the nozzle around internal corners, perimeter junctions and other restricted details.

Do not twist the foil pack independently of the barrel or loosen the front cap while the package remains pressurised.

16. Release Pressure When Pausing

Use the pressure-release control whenever dispensing is paused.

This removes or reduces pressure on the package and helps limit continued material flow from the nozzle.

Wipe excess material from the nozzle before it transfers onto surrounding finishes.

17. Finish the Joint

Tool and finish the applied material within the working time stated by its manufacturer.

Do not rely on the applicator gun to determine the correct joint dimensions or finished profile.

18. Remove the Used Package

Release the pressure and retract the piston rod before opening the barrel.

Remove the empty foil or cartridge carefully and dispose of it according to the product and local waste instructions.

19. Clean the Gun

Remove uncured material from the nozzle, cap, plunger and barrel using the cleaning method permitted by the sealant or adhesive manufacturer.

Do not use an incompatible solvent that could damage the applicator, create hazardous fumes or react with the dispensed material.

Final Checks

After use, confirm that:

  • The piston rod retracts freely.
  • The trigger and release mechanism operate correctly.
  • No cured material remains within the barrel threads.
  • The nozzle and plungers are clean or replaced.
  • The gun is stored dry and without a loaded package.

Important Use Note

Do not overcome a blocked nozzle or cured sealant by applying excessive trigger force. Release the pressure, remove the package safely and identify the blockage before continuing.
