Norsound NOR200 Finger Protection Full Set – 1950mm

Norsound NOR200 Finger Protection Full Set – 1950mm is a surface-mounted door-safety system designed to help prevent fingers from becoming trapped within the hazardous gaps around a hinged timber door.

As a door opens, a wide gap develops between the hinged edge of the door leaf and the frame. A smaller trapping point is also present around the hinge knuckles on the opposite face. The NOR200 Full Set provides protective components for both sides of the hinged edge.

The stocked range is supplied in a fixed 1950mm length with a choice of Silver Grey or White.

Protection for Both Sides of the Hinged Edge

The full set provides:

  • A larger cover for the opening-side gap between the door leaf and frame
  • A smaller protector for the opposite hinge-knuckle gap

This provides more comprehensive protection than a single-side product where both faces of the door are accessible.

The protectors bridge the changing hinge gaps as the door opens and closes, helping restrict access to areas where fingers could otherwise become trapped or crushed.

Surface-Mounted Door Protection

NOR200 is designed for surface mounting to suitable timber doorsets. It can therefore be used as a retrofit solution without routing a dedicated channel into the door leaf or frame.

The flexible PVC components are secured to suitable surfaces on the door and frame using the fixing method required by the current product instructions.

Published fixing options include:

  • Self-adhesive fixing
  • Pinned fixing

The receiving surfaces must be clean, dry, secure and suitable for the selected fixing method.

Designed for Wide Door-Opening Angles

Current technical information states that the NOR200 system can accommodate door openings of up to 180 degrees.

Actual suitability depends on the complete door geometry, including:

  • The hinge type and projection
  • The door-leaf thickness
  • Whether the door is rebated or non-rebated
  • The frame profile
  • The position of adjacent ironmongery
  • The available mounting surfaces

The installed protectors must not become excessively stretched, detach from the substrate or prevent the door from reaching its intended opening position.

Durable PVC Construction

The NOR200 Full Set is manufactured from flexible PVC. The material is designed to move with the door while maintaining a protective barrier over the hinge-side gaps.

Current technical data states that the product has been tested through 250,000 operating cycles.

Cycle testing demonstrates repeated operation under controlled test conditions. Regular inspection is still required, particularly on frequently used doors.

Certified Finger-Protection Performance

Current technical information references:

  • SKG certification
  • EN 16654
  • NEN 8654
  • 250,000 operating cycles

The product should still be selected according to the actual doorset, opening angle, frequency of use and site-specific risk assessment.

Suitable Applications

NOR200 may be suitable for internal timber doors in environments where hinge-side finger trapping has been identified as a risk.

Typical applications include:

  • Schools
  • Nurseries and childcare facilities
  • Libraries
  • Hospitals and healthcare buildings
  • Care environments
  • Community buildings
  • Hospitality premises
  • Other high-traffic public buildings

Final selection should follow the building’s door-safety assessment and maintenance procedures.

Available Colours

The stocked finishes are:

  • Silver Grey
  • White

Select the finish that best coordinates with the door leaf, frame and surrounding ironmongery.

Fixed 1950mm Length

Both variations are supplied in a fixed 1950mm length.

Before ordering, check that this length is suitable for the intended door and that the protector will remain clear of:

  • The floor or threshold
  • The frame head
  • Door closers
  • Hinges and hinge covers
  • Intumescent and smoke seals
  • Other adjacent ironmongery

Do not trim the components unless trimming is permitted by the current manufacturer fitting instructions.

Use on Fire-Resisting Doors

NOR200 is a finger-protection accessory rather than an intumescent or smoke seal.

Before installing it on a fire-resisting door, confirm that:

  • The doorset manufacturer or supporting evidence permits the accessory
  • The fixing method will not damage critical door components
  • The protectors will not obstruct the hinges
  • Intumescent and smoke seals will remain unobstructed
  • The door can close fully from every permitted opening position
  • The latch and self-closing device remain effective

The NOR200 Full Set does not independently provide a fire-resistance or smoke-control classification.

Key Benefits

Full-Set Components

  • Opening-side gap protector
  • Opposite hinge-knuckle protector

The exact component design and supplied fixing accessories should be checked against the current product pack and fitting instructions.

Selection Requirements

Before specifying NOR200, check:

  • The door is a suitable timber doorset.
  • Both sides of the hinge gap require protection.
  • The normal door opening is within the supported range.
  • The door and frame provide suitable fixing surfaces.
  • The protectors will remain clear of hinges and door seals.
  • The 1950mm length is suitable.
  • The door can continue to close and latch correctly.
  • Any applicable fire-door evidence permits installation.

Inspection Requirements

Inspect the fitted protectors regularly for:

  • Loose self-adhesive edges
  • Loose or missing pins where used
  • Tears, splits or punctures
  • Permanent stretching or deformation
  • Excessive tension at the full opening angle
  • Interference with hinges or door seals
  • Obstruction of the door-closing action

Replace damaged components rather than relying on temporary repairs.

How to Install the Norsound NOR200 Finger Protection Full Set – 1950mm

The NOR200 Full Set provides two protective components: one for the large opening-side hinge gap and one for the smaller gap around the hinge knuckles on the opposite side.

Both components must be positioned so that they move freely with the door without becoming excessively stretched or preventing correct door operation.

1. Inspect the Door

Before installation, confirm that:

  • The door leaf and frame are secure.
  • The hinges are correctly fixed and adjusted.
  • The door opens and closes smoothly.
  • The latch and door closer operate correctly.
  • The intended opening angle is compatible with the protector.
  • Suitable fixing surfaces are available.
  • Installation is permitted where the door is fire resisting.

Correct any door-alignment, hinge or closing fault before fitting the finger protection.

2. Identify the Components

Identify:

  • The larger protector for the opening-side gap
  • The smaller protector for the opposite hinge-knuckle gap

Do not install both components on the same side of the hinged edge.

3. Check the Length and Clearances

Offer both 1950mm components to the door and frame without removing any release liner.

Confirm that they:

  • Fit below the frame head
  • Remain clear of the floor or threshold
  • Do not obstruct hinges or door seals
  • Remain clear of adjacent ironmongery
  • Can be aligned vertically along the hinged edge

Only trim the components where this is permitted by the current fitting instructions.

4. Prepare the Mounting Surfaces

Clean the corresponding areas of the door leaf and frame.

The surfaces must be:

  • Clean and dry
  • Free from dust and loose material
  • Free from grease, polish and silicone
  • Free from peeling paint or unstable finishes
  • Suitable for adhesive or pinned fixing

Allow cleaned surfaces to dry completely.

5. Dry-Position the Opening-Side Protector

Position the larger protector across the wide gap exposed as the door opens.

Check its alignment throughout the normal door-opening range.

The protector should:

  • Bridge the gap without twisting
  • Sit flat against both fixing surfaces
  • Remain clear of moving hinge components
  • Move without becoming excessively taut

6. Secure the Opening-Side Protector

Where using the self-adhesive fixing, remove a short section of the release liner and align the first fixing edge.

Remove the liner progressively while pressing the fixing surface firmly into position. Repeat for the opposing fixing edge.

Do not stretch the flexible centre section during application.

Where pinned fixing is required, install the pins only in the positions identified by the current fitting guide.

7. Position the Knuckle-Side Protector

Move to the opposite face of the hinged edge and position the smaller protector across the hinge-knuckle gap.

Confirm that it:

  • Covers the accessible trapping point
  • Does not contact the moving hinge parts
  • Sits flat against the required fixing surfaces
  • Remains correctly aligned throughout door operation

8. Secure the Knuckle-Side Protector

Apply the self-adhesive fixing progressively without stretching or twisting the material.

Where pinned fixing is specified, use the current manufacturer fitting guide to determine the correct fixing positions.

Do not place fixings where they could damage hinges, seals or concealed doorset components.

9. Test the Door

Open and close the door slowly through its complete normal operating range.

Confirm that:

  • Both protectors move freely.
  • Neither component becomes excessively stretched.
  • The fixing edges remain secure.
  • The door reaches its intended opening position.
  • The door closes fully into the frame.
  • The latch engages correctly.
  • The self-closing device remains effective.

Stop and correct the installation if either protector interferes with the door or begins to detach.

10. Complete the Final Inspection

Check that:

  • Both sides of the hinged edge are protected.
  • All self-adhesive edges are firmly bonded.
  • All required pins are secure where used.
  • No sharp fixing points remain exposed.
  • The flexible sections are not twisted or damaged.
  • The protectors remain clear of hinges and door seals.
  • The door opens, closes and latches correctly.

Maintenance

Inspect the NOR200 Full Set regularly, particularly on frequently used doors.

Replace a component where it becomes:

  • Loose or detached
  • Torn, split or punctured
  • Permanently stretched or distorted
  • Excessively tight during operation
  • Likely to obstruct safe door closing

Important Safety Note

The NOR200 Full Set helps reduce access to hinge-side trapping points, but continued protection depends on correct installation, suitable door geometry and routine maintenance.

It should form part of the wider risk assessment and maintenance programme for the complete doorset.
