Norseal Finger Wizard Full Set – 1950mm
Norseal Finger Wizard Full Set – 1950mm is a surface-mounted finger-protection system designed to reduce access to the hazardous gaps created around the hinged edge of a timber door.
As a door opens and closes, two potential finger-trapping areas are created:
- The larger opening-side gap between the door leaf and frame
- The smaller gap around the hinge knuckles on the opposite face
The full Finger Wizard set provides a protective component for both areas, offering more comprehensive coverage than a single gap cover or knuckle-side protector.
What Is Included in the Full Set?
The full set contains:
- One opening-side gap cover for the wider gap exposed as the door opens
- One knuckle-side protector for the smaller gap around the hinge knuckles
- High-tack self-adhesive fixing for initial positioning
- Supplementary fixing pins for additional mechanical retention
Both protective sections are supplied in a fixed 1950mm length and should be installed together where access is possible from both sides of the door.
Reduces Access to Door-Hinge Pinch Points
The flexible covers bridge the changing gaps between the door leaf and frame as the door operates.
Once correctly installed, they help prevent fingers from being inserted deeply into the hinge-side gaps, reducing the risk of trapping or crushing injuries when the door closes.
The product is particularly relevant where doors are used by children or other occupants who may not recognise the hazard presented by an exposed hinge gap.
Suitable Internal Applications
Finger Wizard is primarily intended for internal timber doors in locations where finger-trapping risks have been identified.
Typical supported environments may include:
- Schools
- Nurseries and childcare facilities
- Healthcare buildings
- Care environments
- Community buildings
- Retail premises
- Residential properties
Suitability should be established through the building’s door-safety and risk-assessment process.
Surface-Mounted Installation
The system is surface mounted, so it can normally be fitted without routing a channel into the door or frame.
High-tack self-adhesive strips hold the protectors in position during installation. Supplementary pins are also supplied to provide additional retention, particularly on frequently operated doors.
The receiving surfaces must be clean, dry, secure and suitable for adhesive bonding before the protectors are fitted.
PVC Construction
Finger Wizard is manufactured from PVC, providing a flexible cover capable of moving with the door through repeated opening and closing cycles.
The material is available in three stocked colours:
Select the colour that best coordinates with the door leaf, frame and surrounding ironmongery.
Tested for Repeated Door Operation
Current technical listings describe Finger Wizard as a light-duty finger protector tested through 100,000 operating cycles.
Cycle testing demonstrates repeated operation under the test conditions, but it does not remove the need for routine inspection. Adhesive bonds, fixing pins and flexible sections should be checked periodically, particularly on heavily used doors.
Door-Opening Geometry
Published technical listings identify compatibility with door opening angles up to approximately 120 degrees.
The actual installation must be checked against:
- The door opening angle
- The hinge projection
- The frame profile
- The door-leaf thickness
- The available mounting surfaces
- Any adjacent ironmongery
Do not force the door beyond the angle permitted by the installed protector. Excessive extension can pull the protector from its fixing surface or damage the flexible material.
Use on Fire-Resisting Doors
Finger Wizard is a finger-protection product rather than an intumescent fire seal.
Where it is proposed for a fire-resisting door, confirm before installation that:
- The doorset manufacturer permits surface-mounted finger protection
- The proposed fixing method will not damage critical doorset components
- The product will not obstruct the hinges, smoke seals or intumescent seals
- The door can still close fully from every permitted opening position
- The self-closing device remains effective
The Finger Wizard does not independently provide a fire-resistance classification and should not be described as a fire seal.
Full Set Versus Individual Components
The full set is intended where both sides of the hinged edge are accessible.
Separate components may be used where only one side presents an accessible risk, but the selection should follow the site-specific risk assessment.
- Full set: protects the opening-side gap and knuckle-side gap
- Gap cover: protects the larger opening-side gap only
- Knuckle protector: protects the smaller hinge-knuckle gap only

Selection Requirements
Before specifying the full set, check:
- That both sides of the hinge gap require protection
- That the product length suits the door
- That the door opens within the supported operating range
- That the door and frame provide suitable fixing surfaces
- That the protector will not obstruct hinges or door seals
- That any fire-door evidence permits the installation
Inspection Requirements
Inspect the installed set periodically for:
- Loose adhesive edges
- Loose or missing pins
- Tears, splits or permanent deformation
- Interference with the door or frame
- Excessive tension when the door opens
- Obstruction of the door’s closing action
Replace damaged components rather than attempting temporary repairs that could affect safe door operation.
How to Install the Norseal Finger Wizard Full Set – 1950mm
The Finger Wizard Full Set should be installed on suitable clean and stable surfaces at both sides of the hinged edge.
One component protects the larger opening-side gap, while the second protects the smaller gap around the hinge knuckles.
Before Installation
Inspect the door and confirm:
- The door leaf, frame and hinges are secure.
- The door opens and closes smoothly.
- The required opening angle is suitable for the protector.
- Both mounting surfaces are flat, clean and accessible.
- The components will not obstruct the hinges or door seals.
- The protectors will not contact the floor, frame head or adjacent ironmongery.
- Installation on a fire door is permitted by the relevant doorset evidence.
Correct any hinge, alignment or closing fault before fitting the finger protection.
1. Identify the Two Components
Separate and identify:
- The larger cover for the opening side of the door
- The narrower protector for the opposite knuckle side
Do not install both components on the same side of the hinged edge.
2. Clean the Mounting Surfaces
Clean the relevant areas of the door leaf and frame.
The surfaces must be:
- Dry
- Free from dust
- Free from grease and polish
- Free from loose paint or damaged finishes
- Suitable for adhesive bonding
Allow cleaned surfaces to dry fully before applying the self-adhesive sections.
3. Check the Required Length
Offer each protector to the door and verify that the 1950mm length fits without fouling the floor or frame head.
Where adjustment is permitted by the current fitting instructions, measure and trim the component cleanly. Avoid ragged edges or cuts that could weaken the flexible section.
4. Position the Opening-Side Gap Cover
With the door in the position recommended by the fitting instructions, dry-position the larger gap cover over the opening-side hinge gap.
Check that:
- It runs vertically along the hinged edge.
- It bridges the gap without twisting.
- Its fixing edges sit flat against the door and frame.
- It remains clear of the floor and frame head.
5. Bond the Opening-Side Cover
Remove a short section of the adhesive release liner and align the protector carefully.
Continue removing the liner progressively while pressing the fixing edges firmly onto the prepared surfaces.
Do not stretch the flexible centre section during application.
6. Add the Supplementary Pins
Install the supplied pins in the intended fixing areas to provide additional retention.
Ensure that the pins:
- Enter suitable substrate
- Sit securely without sharp projections
- Do not damage hinges, seals or concealed door components
- Do not distort the protector
Use the pin arrangement stated by the current product fitting instructions.
7. Position the Knuckle-Side Protector
Move to the opposite face and dry-position the smaller protector over the hinge-knuckle gap.
Align it so that it covers the accessible gap while remaining clear of the moving hinge components.
8. Bond and Pin the Knuckle Protector
Apply the self-adhesive fixing progressively, taking care not to stretch or twist the material.
Add the supplied pins in the designated fixing areas for supplementary mechanical retention.
9. Test the Door Carefully
Open and close the door slowly through its normal operating range.
Confirm that:
- Both protectors move freely.
- Neither component becomes excessively tight.
- The protectors do not buckle or detach.
- The door reaches its normal opening position.
- The door closes fully into the frame.
- The latch and self-closing device continue to operate correctly.
Stop and adjust the installation if either protector interferes with door operation.
10. Complete the Final Inspection
Check that:
- Both hinge-side gaps are covered.
- All adhesive edges are firmly bonded.
- All required pins are secure.
- No sharp or projecting fixings remain.
- The protectors remain clear of the hinges.
- The door opens and closes correctly.
Maintenance
Inspect the Finger Wizard regularly, particularly on high-traffic doors.
Replace a component where it becomes:
- Loose
- Torn or split
- Permanently stretched
- Detached from the door or frame
- Damaged by impact
- Likely to obstruct safe door operation
Important Safety Note
The Finger Wizard helps reduce access to hinge-side trapping points, but safe performance depends on correct installation, suitable door geometry and continued maintenance.
It should not be relied upon as a substitute for a suitable risk assessment or the maintenance of the door, hinges and closing equipment.
