4.0 × 50mm WoodMaster Super Cutter Woodscrews are versatile carbon-steel screws designed for efficient fixing into timber, chipboard, MDF and other compatible materials.
Each screw combines a reduced cutting tip, strong Pozi drive and double-countersunk head with nibs. This provides rapid starting, reliable driving and controlled countersinking in a wide range of joinery, construction and general DIY applications.

Universal Timber and Board Fixing

Reduced Cutting Tip
The reduced tip is designed to start accurately and enter compatible materials with less initial resistance than a conventional blunt-ended fixing.

- Limit the need for pre-drilling in suitable materials
Pre-drilling may still be required in dense hardwood, brittle boards, thin components or fixing positions close to an edge.

The double-countersunk head provides additional reinforcement around the neck of the screw and is designed to finish flush with suitable timber and board surfaces.
Nibs beneath the head cut into the surface as the screw reaches its final depth. This helps:

- Limit the need for a separate countersinking operation

The screw should be driven until the head is flush or seated to the depth required by the fixing detail. Overdriving can damage the material and reduce the quality of the connection.
PZ2 Pozi Drive
The screw uses a Pozi No. 2 recess and should be installed with a sound PZ2 driver bit.
A correctly fitting bit helps:
- Transfer torque effectively
- Reduce slipping and cam-out
- Protect the screw-head recess
- Maintain control during countersinking
- Provide consistent installation across repetitive fixings
Do not use a Phillips bit in the Pozi recess. Although the two profiles appear similar, an incorrect bit may slip and damage the screw head.
Carbon-Steel Construction
The screws are manufactured from C1002-grade carbon steel, providing the strength and hardness required for general wood and board fixing applications.
These screws should not automatically be treated as structural fasteners. Connections carrying calculated structural loads must use the fastener type, quantity, spacing and embedment specified by the project designer.
Zinc and Di-Chromate Passivated Finish
The electroplated zinc coating with di-chromate passivation provides corrosion protection for normal internal and sheltered applications.
This finish is not equivalent to stainless steel or a specialist exterior-grade coating.
Use a suitably rated alternative where fixings will be exposed to:
- Persistent moisture
- External weather
- Marine or salt-laden air
- Aggressive chemicals
- Corrosive or preservative-treated timber
Suitable for Soundproofing Projects

How to Install 4.0 × 50mm WoodMaster Super Cutter Woodscrews
Select the fixing position, screw spacing and required embedment according to the materials being joined and the load applied to the connection.
1. Check the Materials
Confirm that both components are sound and suitable for a countersunk woodscrew.
Do not install the screw into:
- Rotten or severely split timber
- Loose or crumbling board material
- Unsupported board edges
- Areas containing concealed pipes or electrical cables
2. Confirm the Screw Length
Check that the 50mm screw can pass through the first component and achieve adequate engagement within the receiving timber or board.
Take account of:
- The thickness of the fixed component
- Any intervening board or membrane
- The required embedment into the supporting material
- The location of concealed services
3. Decide Whether to Pre-Drill
The reduced cutting tip assists starting and can remove the need for a pilot hole in many standard timber applications.
Pre-drill where necessary when fixing:
- Into dense hardwood
- Close to the end or edge of timber
- Through brittle plastics or composite products
- Into thin components that may split
- Where required by the material manufacturer
A clearance hole through the first component may also be useful where the joint must be drawn tightly together.
4. Align and Support the Components
Place the components in their final position and clamp them where necessary.
Check that:
- The joint surfaces meet correctly.
- The fixing point is clear of weak edges.
- The screw will enter the receiving material centrally.
- The components cannot move during installation.
5. Fit the PZ2 Driver
Install a correctly sized PZ2 bit in a suitable drill-driver.
Push the bit fully into the screw recess and keep it aligned with the screw. Replace worn bits that slip or damage the head.
6. Start the Screw
Position the reduced tip at the marked fixing point and begin driving at a controlled speed.
Maintain firm, straight pressure so that the screw starts accurately and the driver remains fully engaged.
7. Drive the Screw
Continue driving while keeping the screw perpendicular to the surface unless the installation detail requires an angled fixing.
Stop and investigate if:
- The screw stops advancing.
- The material begins to split.
- The screw bends or enters at an angle.
- The PZ2 recess starts to strip.
- Unusually high torque is required.
Do not overcome excessive resistance by applying uncontrolled force.
8. Draw the Components Together
Allow the screw thread to engage the receiving material and draw the joint closed.
Where the components do not pull together, remove the screw and check for debris, misalignment or insufficient clearance through the first component.
9. Seat the Head
Drive the double-countersunk head until it is flush with the surface or seated to the depth required by the fixing detail.
The nibs beneath the head assist countersinking. Avoid driving the screw deeply below the surface, as this can damage the material and weaken the fixing area.
10. Inspect the Completed Fixing
Check that:
- The screw is straight and secure.
- The head is flush without excessive surface damage.
- The joined components are firmly clamped.
- No splitting has developed around the fixing.
- The required screw spacing has been maintained.
Use in Soundproofing Systems
Where these screws are used within a soundproofing construction, follow the system’s fixing layout.
Do not drive the screws through resilient bars, isolation clips, acoustic underlays or other decoupling layers unless the design specifically requires it. An incorrectly positioned screw can bridge the isolated construction and reduce acoustic performance.
Environmental Limitation
The zinc and di-chromate passivated finish is intended primarily for normal internal and sheltered conditions.
Use stainless-steel or suitably coated fixings where the installation is exposed to weather, persistent moisture or corrosive conditions.
