Lorient LAS7003 si Perimeter Seal is a slimline, face-fixed compression seal designed to improve acoustic, smoke, draught, weather and light containment around single swing doors.
The seal is fitted to the existing door stops at the head and jambs of the frame. When the door closes, its flexible silicone rubber gasket is compressed between the door face and the stop, helping to close irregular gaps around the door perimeter.
Its flexible compression profile can compensate for doors that are slightly warped, unevenly hung or do not meet the frame consistently. A decorative cover strip conceals the fixing screws after installation, creating a neat and unobtrusive finish.
The LAS7003 si is used to seal the gaps around the top and sides of a single swing door.
Unsealed gaps around a door can allow sound, smoke, draughts and light to pass between adjoining spaces. Installing a suitable perimeter seal helps create more consistent contact between the closed door and the frame.

The LAS7003 si uses a flexible silicone rubber compression gasket mounted within an aluminium carrier.
When the door is closed, the gasket compresses against the face of the door. This creates a continuous seal along the head and jambs of the frame, reducing the open paths through which sound, smoke, air and light can travel.
The gasket’s flexible shape allows it to accommodate small variations in the distance between the door and the stop. This makes it particularly useful where the gap is not completely uniform around the entire door.
The LAS7003 si has been acoustically tested to BS EN ISO 10140-2:2010, with manufacturer test evidence stating performance of up to Rw 33dB.
The quoted rating relates to the tested complete door assembly and should not be treated as the performance of the perimeter seal in isolation. Final acoustic performance will depend on the door leaf, frame, glazing, threshold treatment, installation quality and the condition of the complete doorset.
For effective acoustic containment, the gaps at the bottom of the door must also be treated with a suitable threshold or automatic drop seal.
The LAS7003 si has been tested for smoke containment to BS 476-31.1:1983 at ambient temperature.
It can contribute towards smoke control around a suitable door assembly, but it is not an intumescent fire seal and should not be assumed to provide fire resistance by itself.
Where the product is being installed on a fire or smoke doorset, confirm that the proposed seal arrangement is compatible with the door manufacturer’s certification and project requirements.

A face-fixed perimeter seal can be installed directly onto an existing door stop without routing a channel into the door or frame.
The LAS7003 si can normally be fitted without removing the door from its hinges, making it suitable for upgrading existing doors with relatively little disruption.
Its pre-slotted fixing holes also allow the position of the seal to be adjusted before the screws are fully tightened.
A perimeter seal only treats the head and jambs of the door. Any gap beneath the door must be sealed separately.

The correct door-bottom product will depend on the door construction, available clearance, floor finish and required acoustic or smoke performance.
Check the height and width of the door frame before ordering. Standard individual lengths are available in 1m and 2.1m sizes, while the standard single doorset pack contains one 1m head length and two 2.1m jamb lengths.
The seal should make firm and consistent contact with the closed door without preventing the door from opening, closing or latching correctly.
For acoustic applications, inspect the complete door assembly rather than treating only the perimeter. Sound can also pass through gaps beneath the door, lightweight door leaves, glazing, keyholes, letter plates and poorly sealed frame-to-wall junctions.

The LAS7003 si is designed for the head and jambs of single swing doors. It is particularly useful where an adjustable compression seal is required because the gap between the door face and stop is not completely consistent.

This figure applies to the tested door assembly and not to the LAS7003 si as an isolated component. Installing the seal onto a door does not automatically give that door an Rw 33dB rating.

This is smoke-containment test evidence and should not be confused with an independent fire-resistance rating. Any required intumescent strips or other fire-door components must remain installed in accordance with the evidence for the complete doorset.
Self-tapping wood screws are supplied for installation onto suitable timber stops. The aluminium carrier contains pre-drilled slotted fixing holes, allowing the installer to adjust the seal until consistent compression is achieved.
For metal construction, suitable self-drilling and self-tapping screws are available from the manufacturer on request.
Once the seal has been positioned and tested, the PVC cover strip is fitted into the carrier to conceal the screws.
The LAS7003 si seals the top and sides of the door only. A suitable automatic drop seal, door-bottom seal or threshold seal will normally be required to close the gap beneath the door.
Lorient specifically recommends the LAS8001 si or LAS8004 drop seal. Where a face-fixed threshold seal is used, the LAS7003 si perimeter seal should be installed onto the frame first.
For fire-rated, smoke-control or performance-led doorsets, confirm compatibility with the relevant door certification before installation.
Lorient LAS7003 si Perimeter Seal is face-fixed to the existing stops at the head and jambs of a single swing door.
The seal is designed to be mitred at the upper corners. In most installations, the door does not need to be removed from its hinges.
Always check the current Lorient fitting instructions and confirm that the product is suitable for the door assembly before beginning work.
Inspect the door and frame before installing the seal.
Check that:
Correct serious door-alignment or hardware problems before fitting the seal. The flexible gasket can compensate for moderate variations, but it should not be used to disguise a door that is unsafe or unable to close properly.
Measure the existing stop across the head of the frame and down both jambs.
Allow for mitred joints where the head section meets the two vertical jamb sections.
Mark the required length onto each aluminium carrier. Check all measurements before cutting, particularly where the two jambs differ slightly in length.
Remove the decorative PVC cover strip from each aluminium carrier before cutting or fixing the seal.
Place the cover strips somewhere clean and protected so that they do not become damaged, twisted or contaminated during installation.
Do not permanently fix the cover strips until the carrier positions have been adjusted and checked.
Slowly and carefully cut the aluminium carriers and silicone gaskets to the required lengths.
The LAS7003 si is designed to be mitred at the upper corners. Cut the head and jamb pieces so they meet neatly and create a continuous seal around the top corners of the door.
Use an appropriate saw and cutting guide to produce clean, accurate cuts. Support the carrier while cutting and avoid distorting the aluminium profile or damaging the silicone gasket.
The corner joints of the aluminium carrier may be lightly crimped or pinched after cutting to help prevent the silicone gasket from moving.
Measure and cut the decorative cover strips to correspond with the finished carrier lengths.
Cut the strips carefully so that they fit neatly between the mitred joints and do not overlap or prevent the cover from clipping fully into place.
Keep each cover strip with its corresponding carrier section.
Position the head and jamb seals against the existing door stops.
The flexible gasket must be positioned so that it compresses against the face of the door when the door closes.
Check that:
Using the slotted holes in the carrier as a guide, mark the fixing positions onto the door stops with a pencil.
Lightly fix each carrier to the door stops using the supplied screws.
Do not fully tighten the screws at this stage. The pre-slotted holes are designed to allow the carrier position to be adjusted until the correct gasket compression has been achieved.
Use the supplied self-tapping wood screws for suitable timber construction.
Where the seal is being installed onto metal construction, use suitable self-drilling and self-tapping screws approved for the application. These can be requested from the manufacturer where required.
Close the door and check for uniform contact between the silicone gasket and the door face.
Lorient recommends placing a sheet of paper between the gasket and the door face, then closing the door.
Pull the paper gently. Resistance should feel firm and reasonably consistent at all points around the head and jambs.
If the paper pulls out too easily in one area, adjust the carrier towards the door to increase compression.
If the gasket is excessively compressed or prevents the door from closing correctly, move the carrier slightly away from the door.
Repeat the test around the complete perimeter until consistent contact has been achieved.
Once the seal has been correctly positioned, open the door and tighten all fixing screws.
Tighten the screws sufficiently to hold the carrier securely, but do not overtighten them or distort the aluminium profile.
Close and reopen the door after tightening to confirm that the adjustment has not moved.
Fit the decorative PVC cover strips into the aluminium carriers to conceal the fixing screws.
Press each strip fully into position along its complete length. Check that it is secure, straight and seated correctly within the profile.
If a cover strip later needs to be removed, Lorient advises drilling a small hole at the bottom of the strip and pulling it out using a wire hook or another suitable tool.
Open and close the door several times.
Confirm that:
The installation must not prevent the door from opening, closing or latching correctly.
Lorient recommends using the LAS7003 si with the LAS8001 si or LAS8004 drop seal.
The perimeter seal treats the head and jambs, while the drop seal closes the gap beneath the door when it shuts.
Follow the separate fitting instructions supplied with the selected drop seal. Correctly coordinate the perimeter and door-bottom seals so they form continuous contact without interfering with each other.
Where the LAS7003 si is being combined with a face-fixed threshold seal, Lorient instructs that the perimeter seal should be fitted to the door frame first.
Once the head and jamb seals have been installed and adjusted, fit the threshold seal in accordance with its own installation instructions.
Check the LAS7003 si periodically as part of the door’s normal inspection and maintenance programme.
Inspect for:
Clean the seal carefully using a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive tools or unsuitable chemicals that could damage the silicone gasket, aluminium finish or PVC cover strip.
If the door drops on its hinges or its alignment changes, readjust the perimeter seal so that firm and consistent contact is maintained without creating excessive closing resistance.
Correct installation is essential to achieving useful acoustic and smoke containment.
The seal should make continuous contact around the head and jambs, but it must not prevent the door from operating correctly. The performance of the complete assembly will also depend on the door leaf, frame, glazing, ironmongery, threshold treatment and quality of the surrounding construction.
