5.0 × 100mm Woodscrews – Box of 100

5.0 × 100mm Woodscrews are high-performance, yellow-passivated carbon-steel screws designed for secure fixing into timber, chipboard, MDF and other suitable wood-based materials.

Each screw combines a sharp Type 17 cut point, serrated performance thread, milling section and reinforced double-countersunk head to provide fast starting, reduced driving resistance and a clean, flush finish.

Supplied in a box of 100 with a compatible PZ2 driver bit, these screws are suitable for professional joinery, construction, soundproofing and general DIY applications.

High-Performance Timber Fixing

The 5.0mm diameter provides a strong general-purpose fixing for applications requiring greater length and holding capacity than a standard short woodscrew.

The 100mm length makes the screw suitable for joining thicker timber components or passing through boards, battens and other materials before achieving secure engagement in the supporting timber.

Typical applications include:

  • Fixing timber battens and framing components
  • Joining softwood and hardwood sections
  • Installing chipboard and MDF components
  • Cabinetry and furniture construction
  • General joinery and carpentry
  • Securing timber elements within soundproofing systems
  • General repair, maintenance and DIY work

The screws are not automatically suitable for every structural connection. Where the fixing carries a calculated structural load, use the screw type, spacing and embedment specified by the project designer.

Type 17 Cut Point

The sharp Type 17 cut point is designed to start quickly and reduce the force required during the initial stage of installation.

The cut point helps remove material as the screw enters the timber, reducing the likelihood of the screw wandering across the surface.

This can help:

  • Reduce splitting in many common timber applications
  • Improve positioning accuracy
  • Reduce the need for pre-drilling in suitable materials
  • Lower the initial driving torque
  • Speed up repetitive fixing work

Pre-drilling may still be required when fixing into dense hardwood, brittle boards, thin components, end grain or positions close to an edge.

Serrated Performance Thread

The screw incorporates a serrated thread designed to cut into the surrounding material as it is driven.

This cutting action reduces resistance and helps the screw advance smoothly through timber and wood-based boards.

The thread provides strong engagement within the receiving material while helping reduce excessive torque on the screw, driver bit and power tool.

Milling Thread

A milling section above the main thread helps clear drilling debris from the fixing channel.

This reduces friction around the screw shank and helps prevent material from building up as the screw passes through the first timber component.

The milling action can help:

  • Reduce driving resistance
  • Clear loose timber fibres from the hole
  • Reduce splitting
  • Improve clamping between joined components
  • Support smoother insertion of the 100mm screw

Reinforced Double-Countersunk Head

The reinforced double-countersunk head is designed to reduce the risk of head damage while assisting the screw to finish flush with the material surface.

Self-countersinking ribs beneath the head cut into suitable timber and board materials during the final stage of installation.

When driven correctly, the head should:

  • Seat neatly within the material
  • Provide a clean, flush finish
  • Reduce the need for a separate countersink operation
  • Limit raised fibres around the screw head
  • Provide controlled clamping of the fixed component

Do not overdrive the head deeply into the material, as this can weaken the fixing area or damage the component being secured.

PZ2 Pozi Drive

The screw uses a PZ2 Pozi recess and is supplied with a compatible PZ2 driver bit.

A correctly fitting driver bit helps transfer torque effectively and reduces slipping or damage to the screw recess.

Keep the driver aligned with the screw throughout installation, particularly as the head begins to countersink.

Waxed Zinc and Yellow Passivated Finish

The carbon-steel screw has a waxed zinc and yellow passivated finish.

The waxed coating helps reduce friction and driving torque, while the zinc and passivated surface provides corrosion protection for normal internal and sheltered applications.

This finish should not be treated as equivalent to stainless steel or a specialist exterior-grade coating.

For exposed external, marine, chemically aggressive or persistently wet environments, select a fixing with a corrosion-resistance classification appropriate to the conditions.

Suitable Materials

The screws are primarily intended for timber and wood-based materials, including:

  • Softwood
  • Suitable hardwood
  • Chipboard
  • MDF
  • Plywood
  • Timber battens and framing

They may also be used with certain plastics or composite products where the material manufacturer permits a countersunk woodscrew fixing. A pilot hole may be required to prevent cracking or distortion.

Soundproofing Applications

Within soundproofing systems, the screws may be used for suitable timber-framing and batten-fixing tasks where a 100mm fixing is specified.

The screw has no independent acoustic rating. The sound insulation achieved depends on the complete construction, including the framing, isolation components, board layers, insulation, fixings, joint treatment and perimeter sealing.

How to Install 5.0 × 100mm Woodscrews

Choose the screw length, spacing and embedment according to the materials being joined and the loading applied to the connection.

1. Inspect the Materials

Confirm that the components are sound, correctly aligned and suitable for a countersunk woodscrew.

Do not fix into:

  • Rotten or severely split timber
  • Loose or crumbling board material
  • Unsupported panel edges
  • Areas containing concealed pipes or electrical cables

2. Confirm the Required Penetration

The 100mm screw must pass through the first component while retaining sufficient engagement within the receiving timber.

Account for:

  • The thickness of the fixed component
  • Any board, membrane or isolation layer
  • The required embedment into the supporting timber
  • The location of concealed services

3. Decide Whether to Pre-Drill

The Type 17 point and cutting thread reduce the need for pre-drilling in many softwood applications.

Use a suitable pilot hole when fixing:

  • Dense hardwood
  • Close to a board or timber edge
  • Into thin or brittle material
  • Through plastics or composite components
  • Where splitting or cracking would be unacceptable

4. Clamp and Align the Components

Bring the components into their final position before inserting the screw.

Clamp them where necessary to prevent movement and maintain the required joint alignment.

5. Fit the PZ2 Driver Bit

Install the supplied PZ2 bit into a suitable drill-driver or impact driver.

Check that the bit engages fully with the Pozi recess. Replace a worn bit that slips or damages the screw head.

6. Position the Screw

Hold the screw perpendicular to the material unless the fixing detail specifies an angled installation.

Position the point away from weak edges, existing splits and unsupported areas.

7. Start the Screw

Drive at a controlled speed until the Type 17 point and main thread engage securely.

Maintain firm axial pressure to keep the PZ2 bit seated in the recess.

8. Draw the Components Together

Continue driving while checking that the components pull firmly together.

The milling section helps clear debris and reduce friction as the longer screw passes through the material.

Stop and investigate if:

  • The screw stops advancing
  • The head recess begins to strip
  • The timber splits
  • The screw bends or becomes misaligned
  • Unusually high driving force is required

9. Seat the Countersunk Head

Drive until the head is flush with the material or seated to the depth required by the fixing detail.

The under-head ribs assist countersinking, but the head should not be driven unnecessarily deep.

10. Complete the Final Inspection

Check that:

  • The screw is straight and secure.
  • The head is flush without excessive material damage.
  • The joined components are tightly clamped.
  • No splitting has developed around the fixing.
  • The screw spacing matches the installation specification.
  • The fixing has not damaged concealed services.

Use in Soundproofing Systems

Where the screw is used within an acoustic wall, floor or ceiling construction, follow the system instructions carefully.

Do not introduce screws through resilient or isolated components unless the design specifically requires them, as an incorrectly positioned fixing can form a rigid sound-transmission path.

Important Environmental Note

The waxed zinc and yellow passivated finish is suited primarily to normal internal and sheltered conditions.

Select stainless-steel or suitably coated exterior fixings for persistently wet, exposed or corrosive environments.
