Pyroplex 30054 Glazing Seal – 12 × 7mm

Pyroplex 30054 Glazing Seal – 12 × 7mm is a flexible, self-adhesive intumescent glazing profile designed for use within approved 30-minute glazed fire-door systems.

The profile is installed between the fire-resistant glass and the glazing bead. During normal conditions, it provides a consistent bedding and sealing layer within the glazing pocket. When exposed to elevated temperatures during a fire, the intumescent material expands to help restrict the passage of flames and hot gases around the glass.

The stocked range is supplied in:

  • 10m rolls
  • 150m rolls
  • Black only
  • One fixed 12 × 7mm profile

Glazing Seal Without Fin

Pyroplex 30054 has a plain flexible glazing profile without the projecting glass-contact fin found on some alternative glazing seals.

This creates a compact sealing arrangement suitable for approved slimline and economical glazing-bead systems.

The profile must not be substituted for a finned glazing seal unless the complete door and glazing evidence permits the change.

Designed for Fire-Door Vision Panels

The product is designed for glazed apertures in suitable:

  • Fire-resisting timber doors
  • Fire-resisting steel doors
  • 30-minute glazed door systems covered by current test or assessment evidence

The glazing seal is one component within the complete fire-resistant glazing assembly.

Other required components may include:

  • Approved fire-resistant glass
  • Timber or metal glazing beads
  • Mechanical bead fixings
  • Glazing setting blocks
  • A hardwood aperture liner
  • The correct glass edge cover

30-Minute Fire-Glazing Applications

Pyroplex 30054 is designed for 30-minute fire-resisting glazing systems.

The published fire performance is supported by testing to standards including:

  • BS 476: Part 20/22
  • BS EN 1634-1
  • BS EN 1363-1

The product is currently referenced by Pyroplex under Certifire TS25 Certificate CF348.

The glazing seal does not independently provide a 30-minute fire rating. Performance belongs to the complete tested or assessed glazed door construction.

Suitable Glass Thickness

Pyroplex specifies product 30054 for compatible fire-resistant glass between:

5mm and 7mm thick

The profile may be used with suitable:

  • Insulating fire-resistant glass
  • Non-insulating fire-resistant glass

The exact glass product must be included within the relevant door, glass or glazing-system evidence.

Do not select glass solely by its nominal thickness or advertised fire-resistance period.

Self-Adhesive Backing

The profile incorporates high-performance self-adhesive backing for installation onto the glazing bead.

The adhesive helps hold the seal in position while:

  • The beads are measured and mitred
  • The first bead assembly is fitted
  • The glass is placed into the aperture
  • The opposing beads are mechanically secured

The self-adhesive backing is an installation aid only.

It does not replace the screws, glazing beads, setting blocks or other components responsible for retaining the glass.

Flexible Continuous-Reel Construction

Pyroplex 30054 is supplied as a flexible continuous profile rather than individual pre-cut lengths.

This format helps:

  • Reduce unnecessary joints
  • Minimise cutting waste
  • Simplify storage and dispensing
  • Provide continuous sealing along longer glazing beads
  • Allow installers to cut the exact lengths required

The profile should not be stretched while measuring or applying it. Stretching may cause the material to retract and leave gaps at the bead joints.

Robust Intumescent Material

Pyroplex describes its glazing material as robust, non-flaking, resistant to tearing and unaffected by water.

The product should nevertheless be stored in clean, dry conditions to protect:

  • The adhesive backing
  • The release liner
  • The profile dimensions
  • The surface from dust and contamination

Do not paint, coat or cut away the intumescent material after installation.

Integrity and Insulation

The manufacturer identifies the glazing system as suitable for integrity and insulation applications.

The resulting performance depends principally on:

  • The selected fire-resistant glass
  • The door construction
  • The dimensions and position of the glazed aperture
  • The glazing-bead system
  • The aperture lining
  • The bead fixings
  • The installed glazing seals

The seal itself should not be assigned a universal insulation or integrity rating.

Available Roll Lengths

The stocked formats are:

  • 10m: suitable for individual doors, smaller installations and maintenance stock.
  • 150m: suitable for production work and projects containing multiple glazed apertures.

Pyroplex publishes 150m as the standard coil length for product 30054.

Black Finish

The supplied range is available in:

Black only

Pyroplex publishes additional colours within its wider product range, but Brown, Cream and White are not included as stocked options for this product listing.

The glazing seal will normally be largely concealed behind the glazing bead after installation.

Quantity Guidance

Calculate the quantity required from the perimeter of every glazed aperture.

Allow for:

  • Seal on both faces of the glass where required
  • The number of glazed apertures
  • The width and height of each aperture
  • Mitred bead cuts
  • Minor installation waste

Measure the actual glazing system rather than estimating from the visible glass dimensions alone.

Key Benefits

  • 30-minute glazing system: designed for supported fire-resisting door applications.
  • Without-fin profile: provides a compact glazing-pocket arrangement.
  • Self-adhesive backing: assists application to the glazing bead.
  • Flexible construction: supplied on continuous reels for efficient cutting.
  • Suitable for 5–7mm glass: supports approved insulating and non-insulating glass systems.
  • Slimline format: suitable for approved economical glazing beads.
  • Robust material: designed to resist tearing and flaking.
  • Two stocked lengths: available in 10m and 150m rolls.

Important Buying Advice

Before ordering, confirm:

  • The required roll length
  • The required 12 × 7mm profile
  • The glass type and thickness
  • The required fire-resistance period
  • The glazed-aperture dimensions and position
  • The required glazing beads
  • The bead fixing specification
  • The required aperture liner
  • The current certificate or assessment scope

Do not select a glazing seal solely by its physical dimensions. Fire performance depends on matching every component within the complete tested or assessed glazing system.

Before You Start

Confirm:

  • The required 30-minute fire-resistance period
  • The permitted door construction
  • The approved glass type and thickness
  • The maximum aperture dimensions
  • The permitted aperture position
  • The required glazing beads
  • The bead fixing specification
  • The required glass edge cover
  • The 6mm hardwood lining requirement
  • That Pyroplex 30054 is included within the current system evidence

Do not cut or modify a certified fire door without supporting evidence.

Step 1: Inspect the Aperture

Check that the glazed aperture is:

  • Square
  • Correctly dimensioned
  • Located in the permitted area of the door
  • Free from loose material and damaged edges
  • Suitable for the required hardwood liner

Stop work where the door construction does not match the approved specification.

Step 2: Install the Hardwood Liner

Pyroplex’s current product instructions require the door aperture to be lined with:

6mm hardwood

Install the liner continuously around the aperture with closely fitted joints.

Failure to provide the required liner may invalidate the published Certifire approval.

Step 3: Prepare the Glazing Beads

Prepare the beads to the material and dimensions stated by the glazing-system evidence.

The surfaces receiving the self-adhesive seal must be:

  • Clean
  • Dry
  • Stable
  • Free from timber dust
  • Free from grease and oil
  • Free from loose finishes

Step 4: Apply the Seal to the Bead

Unwind the Pyroplex 30054 profile without stretching it.

Remove the release liner progressively and press the self-adhesive surface firmly against the glazing bead.

Ensure that:

  • The profile remains straight
  • The seal runs continuously along the bead
  • The material is not twisted
  • The profile does not extend beyond the required bead position
  • No contaminated or loose adhesive areas remain

Step 5: Mitre Cut the Beads

Mitre cut the glazing beads with the Pyroplex seal already attached.

Check that:

  • The bead joints meet closely
  • The glazing seal continues into each corner
  • No open gaps remain between adjoining seal sections
  • The profile is not crushed or displaced during cutting

Step 6: Install the First Bead Assembly

Fit one complete side of the glazing-bead system into the aperture.

Under Pyroplex’s published installation arrangement, secure the beads using:

  • M5 × 50mm stainless-steel screws
  • Fixings positioned at maximum 150mm centres

Follow the exact fixing arrangement stated by the current doorset evidence.

Step 7: Prepare the Glass

Pyroplex’s published instructions require the glass to be cut to the aperture with a tolerance of:

±2mm

Confirm that the supplied glass:

  • Is the approved fire-resistant product
  • Is between 5mm and 7mm thick
  • Has the correct dimensions
  • Has no damaged or chipped edges
  • Is orientated correctly where the glass is directional

Step 8: Install the Setting Blocks

Position the approved setting blocks where required by the complete glazing system.

The blocks support the glass and maintain the required clearances.

Do not use the flexible glazing seal to support the weight of the glass.

Step 9: Position the Glass

Using appropriate glass-handling equipment, place the glass into the prepared aperture.

Check that:

  • The glass rests correctly on the setting blocks
  • The required edge clearances are maintained
  • The glazing seal remains in position
  • The glass does not cut or roll the profile
  • The required glass edge cover can be achieved

Step 10: Install the Opposing Beads

Prepare and fit the opposing bead assembly using the same process.

Secure it with the specified mechanical fixings.

As the beads are tightened, confirm that:

  • The glass remains centred
  • The seal contacts the glass consistently
  • The profile is not severely crushed
  • The bead joints remain closed
  • The glass is not subjected to excessive localised pressure

Step 11: Inspect the Complete Glazing Perimeter

Inspect every bead and corner on both faces.

Confirm that:

  • The glazing seal is continuous
  • All mitres are closely fitted
  • No section is missing or damaged
  • All required bead fixings are present
  • The glass remains correctly supported
  • The completed sightline matches the approved detail

Installation Tips

  • Verify the complete glazing specification before starting.
  • Use Pyroplex 30054 only with the supported 5–7mm glass system.
  • Apply the seal to clean and dry glazing beads.
  • Remove the release liner progressively.
  • Do not stretch, twist or sharply fold the profile.
  • Mitre cut the beads with the glazing seal attached.
  • Maintain closely fitted corner joints.
  • Use the specified hardwood aperture liner.
  • Use the approved mechanical fixings and centres.
  • Do not rely on the adhesive to retain the glass.
  • Do not add mastic or sealant unless required by the approved system.
  • Do not paint or remove the intumescent material.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect the glazed aperture as part of the fire-door maintenance programme.

Check for:

  • Cracked or damaged glass
  • Loose glazing beads
  • Missing or corroded fixings
  • Missing or displaced glazing seals
  • Open bead joints
  • Movement within the glazing pocket
  • Paint or sealant covering the profile
  • Unauthorised alterations to the aperture

Important Performance Note

Pyroplex 30054 does not independently provide a 30-minute fire rating.

Performance depends on the complete approved glazing system, including:

  • The fire-resistant glass
  • The timber or steel door construction
  • The aperture position and dimensions
  • The hardwood aperture liner
  • The setting blocks
  • The glazing beads
  • The bead fixings
  • The Pyroplex glazing seals
