How to Install the Norsound NOR400 Acoustic and Fire-Rated Letterplate
The NOR400 must be installed in accordance with the current fitting instructions and the evidence for the complete fire-resisting or acoustic doorset.
Machining an unsupported letterplate aperture into a certified door can invalidate its fire and acoustic evidence.
1. Verify the Doorset Specification
Before cutting the door, confirm:
- The doorset is approved for a NOR400 letterplate.
- The door thickness is between 40mm and 80mm.
- The proposed letterplate position is permitted.
- The required fire-resistance period is supported.
- The required acoustic performance is supported.
- The appropriate perimeter and door-bottom acoustic seals are installed.
- The complete letterplate, intumescent liner and fixing bolts are present.

2. Inspect the Components
Check the NOR400 for damage before installation.
Do not install the product where:

8. Insert the Letterplate Sections
Insert the internal and external sections through the prepared opening.
Check that:

- Both faceplates sit flat against the door.
- The assembly is level.
- The flaps open without contacting the door.
9. Install the Connecting Bolts
Fit the supplied bolts through the designated fixing positions and tighten them evenly.
Do not overtighten the bolts, as this could:
- Distort the letterplate body
- Damage the door faces
- Restrict flap movement
- Crush the intumescent liner
10. Finish the Perimeter
Remove excess uncured sealant using the method recommended for the selected product.
Maintain the continuous required seal behind the faceplates and around the protected aperture.
11. Test the Letterplate
Open and release the internal and external flaps several times.
Confirm that:
- Both flaps open freely.
- Both flaps return to the closed position.
- The letterplate remains level and secure.
- No fixing is loose.
- No visible aperture gap remains.
- The door remains undamaged around the installation.
12. Complete the Final Inspection
Verify that:
- The correct NOR400 finish has been installed.
- The complete supplied intumescent liner was used.
- The aperture is in an approved position.
- The required intumescent sealant has been applied.
- All supplied bolts are secure.
- The flaps operate and close correctly.
- The installation matches the current doorset evidence.
Maintenance
Inspect the NOR400 as part of the door’s fire and acoustic maintenance programme.
Check periodically for:
